In 2012–2014, SULTRADE, in collaboration with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, conducted a study examining the possibilities of producing 2-ethylhexyl nitrate (2-EHN) in such a way that the newly proposed technology would not infringe on existing patents. 2-EHN is one of the most commonly used additives in diesel fuel to increase the cetane number.
Based on this study, he then designed a pilot-scale unit to verify the feasibility of production. Building on the pilot-scale unit, SULTRADE then designed a semi-commercial unit for the new 2EHN production technology with a capacity of 400 tons per year, with the prospect of expanding to approximately 10,000 tons per year; SULTRADE holds a patent for this technology.
